About Turquoise Mountain:

The Turquoise Mountain Institute for Afghan Arts and Architecture (TMI) is an independent, non-governmental, not-for-profit vocational training institute established in 2006, providing high-quality training across four schools: calligraphy & miniature painting, woodworking, ceramics, and jewellery and gem cutting. The Institute is registered with the Afghan Technical and Vocational Education and Training Independent Authority- TVET-A and is also accredited with City & Guilds, a UK-based vocational training body. The Institute is funded by the Trust but is overseen by its own Board of Directors.

Job Description

  • Monitor the progress of client orders with supported carpet producers; updating both the Carpet Program Manager as well as the Carpet Program Technical Consultant regularly in regard to overall progress, complications or delays with notes and photographs.
  • Pass on instructions from the Carpet Program Technical Consultant and Senior Carpet Coordinator Officer  to carpet producers on designs, weaving, washing and finishing.
  • Taking images of dyed yarn and sharing them with the Carpet Production Technical Manager and other team members as required.
  • Taking in-production images of orders and sharing them with Carpet Production Technical Manager and other team members as required.
  • Taking images of off loom carpets for the Carpet Production Technical Manager and other team members are required.
  • Taking images of orders in the washing and finishing stage and sharing them with the Carpet Production Technical Manager and other team members as required.
  • Taking final images of completed products for the Carpet Production Technical Manager and other team members as required
  • Assure the quality of finished carpets ahead of shipping from the carpet producer to Turquoise Mountain in Kabul (or to Pakistan for onward shipping to client)
  • Coordinating closely with the  Carpet Accounting and Logistics Officer in Kabul ensure the final shipment to clients.
  • Assist the Carpet Program Manager and Carpet Program Technical Consultant with logistics surrounding visits to carpet producers and/or weaving facilities. When required, translate and schedule meetings and trainings.  
  • Assist the Business Development and Communications Department when required in gathering relevant data from supported carpet businesses for the purpose of monitoring and evaluation as well as reporting.
  • Supply information on the progress of orders if requested by other team members.

Job Requirements

  • Must graduate from High school and bachelor’s degree is a plus
  • 4 Years of Experience working in the carpet industry
  • Fluency in written and spoken Dari, Turkish and English languages
  • Microsoft Office packages (Word, Excel) Internet
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, innovative and team worker
  • Familiar with planning, and prioritizing tasks
  • Honest, active and well mannered
