Job Description

Job Summary:

The BSFP Focal Point is responsible for the effective implementation of the Emergency Blanket Supplementary Feeding Program (e-BSFP) to prevent malnutrition among children aged 6-59 months, pregnant women, and breastfeeding women. The role involves ensuring accurate targeting, appropriate ration distribution, awareness raising, data reporting, and coordination with other in-kind, CBT, and contingency responses.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Right Targeting
    • Ensure that the e-BSFP targets the correct groups: children aged 6-59 months, pregnant women from the day they are recognized as pregnant, and breastfeeding women during the first 6 months after childbirth.
    • Strictly adhere to the specified target groups and avoid including other categories.
  2. Appropriate Ration Distribution
    • Distribute one sachet of WawaMum per day for each child (30 sachets per month) and 4.5 kg of Super Cereal per month for each woman.
    • Ensure that ration sizes are neither increased nor reduced to maintain the effectiveness of the program and avoid resource wastage.
  3. Awareness and Education
    • Provide e-BSFP awareness messages developed by WFP to each beneficiary at the distribution center.
    • Ensure that no beneficiary leaves the distribution center without understanding the benefits, use, and storage of WawaMum and Super Cereal.
    • Coordinate with Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) and Third-Party Monitoring (TPM) teams to ensure compliance.
  4. Designated Staff and Capacity Building
    • Train staff thoroughly on all aspects of e-BSFP to ensure effective implementation.
  5. Reporting
    • Accurately and timely report data on children and pregnant and breastfeeding women (PBW) who receive e-BSFP services.
    • Disaggregate PBW data by the number of pregnant and breastfeeding women and children under-five by gender (girls and boys).
  6. Information and Education Materials
    • Ensure that distribution centers are equipped with the correct information and education materials, including banners about e-BSFP.
  7. Integration with Other Responses
    • Combine BSFP commodities with in-kind, CBT, and contingency responses to maximize the impact of the program.
  8. Nutrition Sensitization and Counselling
    • Arrange nutrition sensitization and counselling sessions within targeted communities to enhance awareness of maternal and young child nutrition.
    • Set up special groups among beneficiaries, including male members and community leaders, to facilitate the adoption of appropriate nutrition practices.
    • Follow WFP guidance materials and training for outreach and sessions.
 

Job Requirements

Desired Qualifications & Skills:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Public Health, Nursing, Midwifery, or a related field.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 2 years of experience in nutrition programs, particularly in emergency programs.
    • Previous experience with supplementary feeding programs and working with vulnerable populations.
  • Skills:
    • Strong understanding of nutrition principles and practices.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and reporting.
    • Ability to train beneficiaries and supervise staff effectively.
    • Strong organizational and coordination skills.
    • Fluency in local languages and English is highly desirable.
