Bakhtar University (BU) is one of Afghanistan's oldest and most prestigious privately held universities. It was Established in 2005 from a small beginning at Kabul Polytechnic University; through its current location at Kart-e-Char. Bakhtar University is now recognized as an integral part of Afghanistan's growing economic, political and social circumstances. As an independent Afghanistan institution of higher education, BU, as the first established privately held institution, has been recognized with excellent and high-quality programs comparable to its international affiliates such as Indira Gandhi National Open University, India, American International College USA, Georgetown University USA, Attaturk University, Turkey, University of Putra Malaysia (UPM).
The Assistant Faculty member supports the department in delivering high-quality education, engaging in research activities, and providing guidance to students. This role involves teaching undergraduate or graduate courses, conducting research, participating in departmental activities, and contributing to the overall academic environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Teaching and Instruction:
Deliver engaging and effective lectures, seminars, and tutorials in economics to undergraduate or graduate students.
Develop course syllabi, lesson plans, and instructional materials that align with the curriculum and learning outcomes.
Assess student performance through assignments, exams, and projects, and provide constructive feedback to support their academic progress.
Facilitate discussions, encourage critical thinking, and promote active student participation in the learning process.
Research and Scholarly Activities:
Engage in research activities in the field of economics, which may include conducting empirical studies, theoretical analysis, literature reviews, or data analysis.
Publish research findings in reputable academic journals, present at conferences, and contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the field.
Collaborate with colleagues, both within the department and from other institutions, on research projects and interdisciplinary initiatives.
Seek external research funding through grant applications to support research endeavors.
Academic Support and Advising:
Provide academic guidance and support to students, including advising them on course selection, degree requirements, and career opportunities in economics.
Mentor students in their research projects, theses, and dissertations, offering guidance on research methodology, data analysis, and scholarly writing.
Supervise student internships, independent study projects, and other experiential learning opportunities to enhance their practical understanding of economics.
Departmental Engagement:
Participate in departmental meetings, committees, and other activities to contribute to the overall functioning and development of the Economics department.
Collaborate with colleagues in curriculum development, program assessment, and improvement initiatives.
Contribute to the recruitment and admissions process by reviewing applications, conducting interviews, and assessing prospective students' qualifications.
Professional Development:
Stay abreast of developments and trends in the field of economics through continuous professional development, attending conferences, workshops, and engaging in relevant training opportunities.
Maintain knowledge of pedagogical best practices, incorporating innovative teaching methods and technologies into instructional strategies.
Engage in professional networks and associations to foster connections with other economists and educators.
A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Economics or a closely related field (Master's Degree is preferred)
Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in the field of economics through academic achievements, research publications, or professional experience.
Teaching experience, preferably in higher education, and a passion for delivering high-quality instruction.
Strong research skills and the ability to contribute to the scholarly community through research publications and conference presentations.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with students, colleagues, and stakeholders.
Proficiency in using educational technologies and software relevant to teaching and research in economics.
Strong analytical and quantitative skills in data analysis and economic modeling.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and contribute to departmental initiatives.
Commitment to professional development and staying current with developments in the field of economics.
