Job Description

Summary of Key Functions:

The Agribusiness Officer will support the Agribusiness Specialist in the implementation of CBARD project agribusiness component. He/she will assist in facilitating operations, identifying, developing and expanding agribusiness income generation opportunities for the project beneficiaries and program participants. Collaborate with the agribusiness Specialist in planning, developing, and facilitating comprehensive technical assistance, agribusiness market linkages, and agriculture extension support with emphasis on increasing profitability of agribusiness income generation opportunities.

  • work with technical team to conduct a Rapid Market Assessment (RMA) to Identify key high value agriculture crops that have surplus production and export potential.
  • Prepare training materials and work as trainer in areas related to agribusiness in all regular training courses of the project.
  • Identify gaps, constraints and bottlenecks in production, harvesting, processing, value addition and marketing areas of selected agriculture value chains and help establish linkages among producers, service providers, processors, aggregators and exporters for agribusiness opportunities.
  • In coordination with the agribusiness specialists, provide support to ensure agri-business development activities are implemented according to agreed plans and timelines.
  • In coordination with the agribusiness specialists and regional project implementation units, prepare work plans and conduct trainings to the agribusinesses in the areas of value addition and marketing.
  • Coordinate closely with suppliers of Farms Support package materials during the distribution phase of the project.
  • Develop business case and modules for Marketing Training for business development.
  • Maintain professional relationships with team members, promote a strong spirit amongst the team and provide oversight and guidance to enable staff to successfully perform in their roles.
  • Establish relationships with different stakeholders within and outside of the identified value chains to improve the operations of businesses and entrepreneurs.
  • Undertake other duties and responsibilities commensurate with the role and level of this job as may be requested by the Regional Manager and/or the project management unit.

Key relations:

Internal: Project manager, Project supervisor, livelihood officer, Program Quality Unit, project beneficiaries, government related departments, NGOs (local and national), forums, CARE internal departments.

External: Government relevant counterparts, Microfinance Associations, Private Sectors, Project’s Stakeholders, target communities and business institutions.

Duty Locations:

Balkh sub office with regular visits to targeted districts in Balkh.

Job Requirements

Core Competencies:

Excellent planning, conceptual, entrepreneur, organizing, analytical, networking and negotiation skills, Problem-solving, decision-making and delegation skills strong leadership, good verbal and written communication skills in English, Dari and Pashtu, capacity to adapt to a changing environment and working under tight deadlines.

Skills and Experience:

Excellent computer skills especially in Word and Excel.

Excellent interpersonal and communication, supervisory and coaching skill

Education:

University degree in Agriculture discipline, economics, business administration or related subjects required. master’s degree in above discipline will be given preference.  

Work Experience:

Minimum 3 years of working experience in related field.

Languages Skills:

Fluency in written and spoken English, Dari and/or Pushto languages required.
